What is the difference between a Welcome to Medicare visit and an Annual Wellness Visit?
The Welcome to Medicare visit (Initial Preventive Physical Examination) is a one-time appointment available within the first 12 months of enrolling in Medicare Part B. The Annual Wellness Visit is a yearly appointment that occurs after you’ve had Medicare Part B for longer than 12 months. Both are fully covered by Medicare.
Do I need to fast before my Annual Wellness Visit?
No, fasting is not required for a Medicare Annual Wellness Visit. However, if your provider orders blood work during or after your visit, you may need to fast for those specific lab tests. We will let you know in advance if any fasting is needed.
Which immunizations does Medicare cover?
Medicare Part B covers flu shots, pneumonia vaccines, COVID-19 vaccines, and Hepatitis B shots for high-risk patients. Medicare Part D covers other commercially available vaccines like shingles (Shingrix) and Tdap. Most preventive immunizations have no out-of-pocket cost.
How often should I get a wellness visit?
Medicare covers one Annual Wellness Visit every 12 months (11 full months must pass since your last visit). We recommend scheduling your visit around the same time each year to maintain consistent preventive care and health monitoring.
What should I bring to my wellness visit?
